Minecraft default skins

The nine skins the game gives an account that has none, each in classic and slim arms. Download any of them, open one in the editor, or find out which one is yours.

Paste your UUID. The game picks the default skin from it. Know your name only? The UUID lookup shows both.

How it works

  • Every skin is the game's own file, 64×64, in both arm widths.
  • Download a PNG and upload it on your profile page or in the launcher, like any skin.
  • Press Edit to open one in the skin editor as a starting point.
  • Want a profile picture of one? The PFP maker lists all nine.

The game holds 18 entries: each of the nine in slim and in classic.

Questions

Which default skin do I get?
The game picks it from your account's UUID: since Java 1.19.3 it holds nine skins in a classic and a slim version, 18 in all, and takes the hash of the UUID modulo 18. Paste your UUID above to see which one, or look up your name in the UUID tool.
Can I choose a different default skin?
On Java, the launcher's Skins tab lists all nine in both arm widths, and picking one sets it on your profile. On Bedrock, the Dressing Room lists them under Classic Skins. Or download the PNG here and use it like any skin.
When were the seven new skins added?
They were announced at Minecraft Live on 15 October 2022 and shipped in Java Edition 1.19.3 (first in snapshot 22w45a) and Bedrock Edition 1.19.50. Before that, every account without a skin was Steve or Alex.
Are these the real files?
Yes. They are the textures the game ships, unchanged, in both arm widths. Each one is 64×64 and opens in the editor.
Why do Steve and Alex look different from years ago?
Both were redrawn in 1.19.3 with the seven new skins: Steve gained a beard and both got cleaner shading, and every default skin now exists in both arm widths.
