Questions

What size should a profile picture be?
Discord shows avatars at 128 px but accepts up to 1024, and it crops to a circle. 512 px is sharp everywhere and small enough to upload anywhere. Every picture here is square.
Which look should I pick?
The 3D head is the one most players use: it reads at any size and shows the hat layer. The flat face is the classic 8×8 look. The whole character fits a banner or a wallpaper better than a round avatar.
Why does the head look blocky and not smooth?
On purpose. A skin is 8 pixels across the face, and the picture keeps every pixel sharp instead of blurring them. That is what a Minecraft avatar looks like.
Can I make one from a friend's skin?
Type their username. The page loads the skin they wear now. A skin is still its author's work, so use the picture for yourself and do not claim the skin.
Is the picture uploaded anywhere?
No. The rendering runs in your browser, and the download comes straight from the page.
