How it works

  • Pick a style: two words, a word and a number, an underscore, or short.
  • Type a word of your own to build the names around it. Leave it empty for a random list.
  • Press New list for twelve more. Press Check beside a name to ask Mojang whether it is free.

Questions

Where do the words come from?
The nouns are the game's own: mobs, blocks, items and places, from Allay to Zombie. The adjectives are plain English. No brand names, no creators, no copied names from other players.
Are the names checked for availability?
Each one can be. Press Check beside a name and the page asks Mojang whether a Java Edition account holds it, the same lookup as the name checker. Checks run one at a time because Mojang answers a burst of lookups with errors.
Why are short names almost always taken?
Names of 3 to 5 characters are the rarest thing on a 15-year-old service, and people run scripts to claim any that drop. A short name that shows as not taken is worth acting on at once.
Can I use a generated name on Bedrock?
Bedrock uses your Xbox gamertag, which allows spaces and gets a number suffix when the name is shared. Every name here also fits the gamertag rules, but its availability is checked on Xbox when you change it, not here.
