How it works

  • Pick a tool on the left and a color on the right.
  • Click or drag on the character to paint that part of the skin.
  • The flat texture shows the same skin unwrapped. Paint there for exact pixels.
  • Turn on Mirror to paint both arms or both legs at once.
  • Press 1, 2 or 3 to change the brush size.
  • Hide a layer in Parts to paint what sits under it.
  • Drag the empty space around the character to turn it.
  • Your work stays on this computer. A draft restores when you come back, and Versions keeps up to 30 named copies.

Questions

How do I use the skin I made?
Download the PNG. On Java Edition, open the launcher, go to Skins, and choose New skin. On Bedrock, open the Dressing Room, pick Classic Skins, and import the file. The skin must stay 64×64.
Which download do I pick?
Java Edition takes a 64×64 PNG. Bedrock takes 64×64 too, and also 128×128. The HD download is for Bedrock only; Java rejects a 128×128 file. If you are not sure, take the 64×64 file. It works on both.
What is the difference between Classic and Slim?
Classic arms are 4 pixels wide. Slim arms are 3 pixels wide. The texture file is the same size for both; the game reads the arm columns differently. Pick the model you use in the game.
What is the overlay layer?
Every part has a second layer that sits one pixel above the base: the hat, jacket, sleeves and trousers. Leave a texel transparent to see the base through it. Hide the overlay in the Parts panel to paint the base under it. Only the outer layer can be see-through: Java Edition shows a transparent texel on the body as black.
Can I open an old 64×32 skin?
Yes. The editor upgrades it to 64×64. The left arm and left leg are copies of the right ones, which is what the game does with an old skin.
Is my work saved?
Two ways. Logged out, everything stays on this computer: the editor keeps a draft in this browser and restores it when you come back, and the Versions panel keeps up to 30 named copies. Log in and Save puts the skin on your account instead, layers and all, so it opens on any computer you log in from. Either way, download the PNG to keep a copy you control.
What does the check before download look for?
Open the Download menu and the editor checks the skin first. It finds pixels outside the skin's map, which can hide the whole outer layer in Java; see-through texels on the base layer, which Java shows as black; and arms painted for the other model. Each finding has a one-click fix.
Can I share a draft?
Press Share. The link holds the whole skin, layers included. There is no account and nothing is uploaded: the skin is encoded in the link itself. Anyone who opens it gets their own copy to edit.
Can I publish my skin to this site?
Yes. Open the Download menu and pick Publish to the catalog. The skin gets its own public page, and anyone can find and download it. You need a free account.
Can I edit a skin from the catalog?
Yes. Press Catalog in the top bar to browse this site's skins. On any skin's page, press Edit this skin and it opens here as your own copy. Your draft is saved before you leave, so you can come back to it.
Can I preview a cape?
Yes. Pick one in the cape menu under the 3D view, or fold it into elytra wings. It is a preview only: a cape is a separate texture the game grants to an account, and it is never part of the skin file.
Can I make a render of my skin?
Yes. Pick a pose under the 3D view, turn the camera, and press Save render. The editor saves a large PNG with a transparent background. Use it as a thumbnail, an avatar, or a wallpaper piece.
Can I mix pieces from different skins?
Yes. Open the Parts tab and find the Wardrobe. Pick a piece, such as the hair or the whole outfit, then click a catalog skin or one of your saves to take that piece from it. The preset rows give you a plain shirt or trousers in any color with one click. Every change is one undo step.
Can I copy a piece of one skin onto another?
Yes. Pick the Select tool, drag a box on the flat texture, and press Copy. Open the other skin, press Ctrl+V, and drag the pasted block into place. The copied pixels stay on your clipboard while you switch skins. Drag inside a box to move it; Escape puts a move back.
