The page image
This is the file that goes into the pack, at its real size. Each square is one emoji, and its place in the grid is what decides the character you type.
Bedrock Edition only. Java handles custom characters a different way, so this pack would not work there.
How it works
- Add your pictures. Each one takes the next square on the page, and a square is one emoji.
- Name them if you want. The name is for you: it is not shown in the game.
- Copy the character beside each picture, or copy the whole set at once. That character is what you type to get the picture.
- Download the pack, open it, and turn it on under Settings, Global Resources.
- Keep your characters somewhere you can paste from. Without them the pack has nothing to draw.
Bedrock Edition only, and only pages the game leaves free are offered, so nothing you install here can replace the game's own symbols.
Questions
- How do I type one of my emoji?
- Copy the character from the list on this page and paste it into chat, a sign or a book. Each picture has its own character. They look like empty boxes outside the game and like your picture inside it.
- Why does it show as a box?
- Because the character has no meaning outside Minecraft. It comes from the part of Unicode set aside for exactly this, where the picture is agreed between the pack and the game. With the pack turned on, the game draws your picture.
- How do I install the pack?
- Open the .mcpack file and Minecraft imports it, then turn it on under Settings, Global Resources so it applies everywhere. For one world only, turn it on in that world's resource pack settings instead.
- Do other players see my emoji?
- Only if they have the same pack turned on. To everybody else the character shows as an empty box, because their game has no picture for it.
- What does the page setting do?
- A page holds 256 emoji, and it decides which characters yours use. Change it if you already run another emoji pack, so the two do not sit on the same characters and replace each other.
- Why can I not use page E0 or E1?
- The game uses those itself, for the controller buttons and the symbols in its own menus. A pack written there replaces them, and you would not notice until a menu looked wrong. This tool only offers pages the game leaves free.
- Does this work on Java Edition?
- No. Java supports custom characters too, but through a different kind of file, so this pack would not do anything there.
