Skin to Totem of Undying

Put your own character on the totem. Open a skin, pick a style, touch up any pixel you like, and download the pack for Java or Bedrock. Everything happens in your browser.

64×64, or the older 64×32.
Or start from a default skin:

How it works

  • Open a skin PNG, or start from one of the default characters.
  • Pick a style. Each one is a different outline: the whole character, the item's wide-armed shape, head and shoulders, or the face alone.
  • Touch up any texel you want. Draw on the picture with the pencil, take a color out of it with the dropper, and clear a texel with the eraser. Revert puts the style back.
  • Choose your Minecraft version, so the launcher does not call the pack out of date.
  • Download the Java .zip or the Bedrock .mcpack. You can also take the bare 16×16 PNG and drop it into a pack you already have. To edit a SKIN rather than a totem, open the skin editor instead; it works on the 64×64 skin, not on a 16×16 item texture.

The totem is drawn entirely from the skin you supply. It is not a recolor of the item the game ships, so nothing of Mojang's artwork is included in the pack you download.

Questions

Where does the file go?
On Java, put the .zip in your resourcepacks folder, then turn it on under Options, Resource Packs. On Bedrock, open the .mcpack file and the game imports it, then turn it on under Settings, Global Resources.
Does this work on servers?
Yes. A resource pack changes what your own computer draws, so your totem looks like your skin everywhere you play. Nobody else sees it, and no server needs to allow anything. A server that forces its own resource pack will replace it while you are on that server.
Is this a mod?
No. It is a resource pack, which the game supports on its own. There is nothing to install, no loader, and it cannot get you banned.
Why does the version dropdown matter?
A pack states which version it was built for. If the number is old, the launcher warns you that the pack is out of date, even though the totem still works. Pick your version and the warning goes away. The pack claims support up to the newest version we know about.
Why is the picture so small?
Because an item texture in Minecraft is 16 pixels square. Your totem is drawn at the same size as every other item you hold, so a bigger file would only be shrunk back down. The preview shows it magnified.
Can I change the picture by hand?
Yes. Every style is a starting point, not the finished item. Draw on the totem with the pencil, take a color out of it with the dropper, and clear a texel with the eraser. Undo steps back through your strokes, and Revert puts the chosen style back. Changing the style or the skin starts a fresh picture, so download the pack before you switch.
Which style should I pick?
Mini me is the whole character and reads as a small player. Totem is the widest, with the arms out to both edges, and it looks most like the item the game ships. Bust is head and shoulders, so the face is as large as it can be while a body is still there. Face is the 8×8 face alone at double size, and it is the sharpest of the four because no pixel is resized.
Does my skin get uploaded?
No. The PNG is read, the totem is drawn and the pack is zipped in your browser. Nothing leaves your computer and there is no account.
